Turn a bad situation into a good one Tuesday! Sure, why not?

I am deeming today “Turn a bad situation into a good one” Tuesday.  I forgot to apply my (current favorite) mascara, Le Big Show from Annabelle.  Rather than confuse the hell out of my other half and try to get him to find it and drop it off at my office (and YES I have done that before), I decided to either purchase a new mascara or grab some falsies from MAC.

WELL, I was less than impressed with the customer service at the MAC store this morning.  I stood waiting for assistance for about 10 minutes and then when I asked to purchase some #4 lashes, I was told it was “morning rush” and that the lashes could be applied (this is what I requested) but that I would have to wait until it was “my turn.” Fine.  I have no problems/issues with being ‘in the queue.’ I was also told that even if it was “my turn” if another customer walked in and requested assistance, that I would have to wait (again) even if I was mid-lash.  Of course during this conversation, another customer walked in and asked for lashes.  Then I was told that I would have to wait again…..as in, this walk-in would be helped before me even though I had been waiting.  Don’t ask my why because I don’t know.  My blood was starting to boil…..so I left.  Tsk tsk MAC.

On the positive side, that situation is going to give me a chance to tell you about a *new* mascara that I purchased from L’Oreal.  It’s Double Extend Eye Illuminator in 450 Black Crystal.  It’s a 2-step double end mascara.  This mascara is supposed to “illuminate the eyes.”

From the package:

Step 1:  Lengthen & Intensity-Black mascara infused with a hint of color adds volume and length to lashes while intensifying eyes.

Step 2:  Illuminate-the illuminate top coat infused with light-reflecting pearls highlights your eye color with our exclusive sphere tip brush.

For Everyday accents: Apply top coat at tips only

For Intense drama (that’s my everyday-ha ha):  Aply top coat from root to tip

This mascara claims to be clump free, flake and smudge resistant.  It also says that is safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.  Good news-since step 2  is basically glitter.

Let’s take a look-sie:

The whole kit and kaboodle

Step 1:  Love the brush here but the handle is kind of short for my liking:

Step 1-a big brush...not too shabbyStep 2-the illuminationThere are gold 'flecks' here

My thoughts:

I do like this mascara but it doesn’t hold a candle to my Le Big Show in terms of lash “drama.”  I didn’t really notice anything illuminated about my lashes.  That being said, this mascara has fantastic lengthening ability.  My lashes had increased length for sure:

hmmm-I see some length but ix-nay on the olume-vay. Boo.

This mascara is staying at work so the next time I forget my Le Big Show I don’t have to fret.  It’s good in a pinch but don’t expect anything phenomenal-I bought it full price *gasp* for $15.99 CAD.

What are your thoughts on 2-step mascaras?

Do you think the illuminating properties stand up to the claim?

What’s your favorite mascara?
