h.wood.lips. lip shine a.k.a. my first “miss”

Another product in my bag of ‘goodies’ from Katie at ebeauty.ca was my h.wood.lips lip shine in ‘poppy.’  Since I had never heard of the brand, a bit of internet stalking was in order.

From www.hwoodbeauty.com:

“We are excited to introduce h.wood.beauty, a brand new beauty line specializing in the finest cosmetics and decadent body products. The brand hails from Hollywood and was inspired by h.wood.tea, a delicious and aromatic tea line created for use at exclusive VIP ‘tea room’ of Hollywood nightclub h.wood.

By combining the winning flavors of h.wood.tea with the undeniably cool vibes of the Tea Room at h.wood, h.wood.beauty has concocted a modern and unique beauty line. Our collection is at once distinctive, swanky, and filled with the finest beautifying, all-natural ingredients.

From our tea-spiked body products to our pout-perfect lip line (which includes exfoliating tea-based lip scrubs, our essential “get nude” matte lipstick line, and sheer, moisturizing lip shines), our philosophy about makeup is that it should be relaxed, simple, sexy, and fun. At h.wood.beauty, we believe that makeup isn’t about looking flawlessly polished; it’s about celebrating yourself.”

Hmm interesting story-tea, you say?

The company’s tag is “relaxed, simple, sexy and fun.”  I have to say I smirked when I read that.  The packaging of the lip shine  is anything but relaxed and simple.

Gold doesn't say simple t o me.

h.wood.lips lipshine in poppy

the word here is S-H-E-E-R

So onto the product itself….I have been using this for about 2 weeks.   The color “poppy” is a coral-ish pink.  The website says:

“A sheer color bursting with shine!

Nourishing and hydrating…full of mango butter, shea butter, jojoba oil, avocado butter, cocoa butter, and camellia oil.”

The website also mentions that this is ‘great alone or over your favorite lipstick.’  I am glad they mentioned that because wearing the lip shine by itself does nothing for my lips.  I also am experiencing the opposite of hydrating. I find that this product intensifies the fact that my lips are less-than-perfect.  On the other hand, I have been paying more attention to my lips now that I have  been wearing the lip shine.

I did try the lip shine over some lipsticks….it’s just okay, nothing to rave about.

Would I buy the lip shine again?  Maybe.  My reasoning includes the fact that this color may not be ‘right’ for my skin tone (VERY fair with pink undertones).  I don’t want to totally discount all h.wood.beauty products-they have some great eye shadows  and lipsticks for summer.  Unfortunately, this product just didn’t work for me.

Thanks to ebeauty.ca for sending this to me!

Too bad that it didn’t work for you but maybe other products would. I like the packaging but I am afraid that it would get damaged hanging out in my purse.

I like the packaging too but disagree with the company calling it “simple.”

I would like to try the eyeshadows but wonder about the color payoff. Going to do some research and look for other reviews (if I can find any).
