Stylin’ at the Blush Pretty Hair workshop

One of the perks have having talented and creative people in your life is that they will often need a ‘canvas’ to work on.  In this case, the canvas was my hair…..

I have spoken of Blush Pretty workshops before and even guest posted on Alicia’s blog  about my Day to Night workshop!  To be clear, they are quite fantastic!

This workshop was no different-I was there to be a “model”-as in hair model. Stephanie was instructing during this workshop.  The workshop was intended for makeup artists who want to know how to style hair-tricks and tips.  This could prove to be especially helpful if on a ‘job’ and the hairstylist is a no-show or perhaps there is simply no one to handle the hair available!

First, Stephanie showed us a top knot on Elaine (of TOBeauty Reviews).

Stephanie talks, we listen!

elaine, getting her knot on.....

Almost done.....

Elaine always looks fantastic but this knot really pulled it together.  The outfit complements her knot perfectly!

Next up was Monica-she got the ‘sleek’ ponytail.

Look at that height!

What a beauty!

And then there’s me….my style was ‘side swept’ waves, which I happen to love.

*This is also the point at which my camera battery was down to one bar-hooray.*

Stephanie demonstrating how to make curls with a flat iron

woo hoo! It's all about the waves and clever pinning of hair using bobby pins

Close up of the back-*sigh* love it.

Side view-very Gibson girl like.

This was a great workshop (I didn’t expect anything less).  I learned quite a bit-from how to ‘hide’ bobby pins, to how to create height in the hair, using a teasing comb/brush.  All very useful items.

Although I am not a makeup artist, I think these are great skills to have.  If I happen to have an event after work that I need to prepare for, I feel confident that I could pull off a quick set of waves or add some volume.  For MUA’s, especially if you are on a photoshoot, knowing how to style hair could be a VERY valuable (and profitable) skill that could give you an edge.

I loved this workshop and encourage everyone-from the novice, the beauty junkie all the way to the professional MUA to take a look at BlushPretty and the workshops that are offered.  Such a small price to pay for such great information-in addition to being able to network with peers in the industry!

Good stuff! Bravo!

What would you do if you had an event to go to and had to get ready in a hurry? Do you know how to style your own hair?

OMG I am in love with that top knot. Makes me wish my hair was long again. I am going to go to the Sculpt workshop while I am in Toronto. I saw there was a brow workshop being taught by ‘Meredith’. Is that you or another Meredith?

Thanks for this awesome post Meredith and for being such a great supporter. I will end this quote with “what the F**K was I thinking when I chose my outfit that day?

@Stephanie I feel like you would say that even if you were in your ‘Sunday best’

I really learned a ton at the workshops-going to cruise the November schedule!

This looked like it was a fun workshop. Stephanie did a ballerina bun on me one day when I had a gala dinner. I loved it. I couldn’t believe how she made my thin hair in a big, poufy bun. Have I been able to replicate it – somewhat but not as big as she made it.

@Leesh I bet that looked amazing! I would love to see some pics!
I am loving the workshops. So far, I have been able to apply everything that I have learned with fantastic results!
