I’m gonna soak up the sun……(safely) with Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration!

Oh summer is here!  The patio chairs are outside and people are indulging in fruity after work cocktails and tapas/Hors d’oeuvres. Weekends are for the cottage and straight up lounging!

There’s nothing like being outside in the summer…..but if you’re a fair skinned gal like me, it’s all about the right protection.  Since the Canadian Dermatology Association recommends applying sunscreen every 2 hours, why not use a product that you actually WANT to apply and has added benefits?

Hawaiian tropic is unveiling several *new* products this summer!

Let’s take a look at the products:

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration sunscreen is the first and only sunscreen with hydrating ribbons for continuous moisture! It is infused with silk protein and shea butter.  The sunscreen is waterproof, light and non greasy and smells delicious! Silk Hydration is available in SPF 10, 30, & 50 and offers UVA AND UVB sun protection!

SPF 10 suggested retail $9.99 CAD

SPF 30&50 suggested retail $10.99 CAD

Hawaiian Tropic Shimmer Effect Sunscreen SPF 30 with mica minerals enhances your skin tone while providing broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection!

SPF 30 suggested retail $10.99 CAD

Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch SPF 85 Sunscreen is a photostable lotion that provides UVA and UVB protection.  It offers a lightweight feel, is waterproof AND oil free!

SPF 85 suggested retail $11.99 CAD

I knew that I liked using these products already so I ventured out into my network to find some ‘testers.’  Here are their thoughts on Hawaiian Tropic Sunscreen products.

The beauty: Liz

The product:  Hawaiian Tropic Shimmer Effect SPF 30 over the holiday weekend at the cottage!

Her Thoughts:

“Hawaiian Tropics Shimmer Effect sunscreen is great! It gives me that shiny beachy look that makes me feel like I am glowing!  The only downside is that the sparkles get everywhere!”

*I have to agree about the shimmer/sparkles-but since I am in love with shimmer, I don’t consider it a downside.  However, my other half seems to be annoyed that the shimmer is on his recently stained wooden patio chairs.  Personally, I think it enhances the chairs 😉

The Guinea Pig:  Brandon

The product:  Hawaiian Tropic SPF 85 Sunscreen Lotion and sunning on the condo balcony!

His Thoughts:

“This product is great because it’s light-not thick or sticky.  I like that it’s oil free and doesn’t have that sunscreen smell.”

The fairest:  Me!

The product: Hawaiian Tropic SPF 30 Silk Hydration- daily user because I have to function in the city!

My Thoughts:

“Since the first application of this, I have been using it as a lotion.  I apply it after my shower in the morning and take it with me to reapply-especially if I plan on being outside at all during the day.  The texture is great-it’s not that typical sticky, thick sunscreen.  This applies like a lotion and smells like the beach!  This product has made its way into my daily rotation!”

Applying sunscreen isn’t a chore-it’s a necessity!  Why not use a product that applies like a lotion and offers protection against UVA/UVB? Take care of your skin-it’s the largest organ you have!

What’s your sunscreen routine?

As you know, I apply sunscreen to the face every day – usually I prefer a primer with SPF. Summer time, I apply to all “exposed” areas.
I never tried this brand, glad that you like the SPF 30 one.
Btw SPF ratings of above 50 will be banned, anything above 50 gives the same protection 🙂

@Diana It’s obvious you take very good care of your skin-you glow on camera!

One of the dumbest thing I ever heard said on YouTube, by a beauty guru no less, “I don’t want to wear sunscreen vpbecause it might make me break out. I don’t want to take that chance, and we live in Wisconsin so no need for it”
The quote marks were inserted for a reason, that is exactly what she said. This person has over 1,000 subscribers and a 2nd channel with im sure the same number of followers. Besides being a totally wrong statement on so many levels, I’ve wondered how many of her listeners think its okay to go without sunscreen if you’re worried about break outs, and if you live in a colder area of the country then no need for it. It has been my experience that even on cloudy days there is still sun exposure and oh by the aw, it is so much easier to clear up a zit than Stage IV skin cancer. Some people’s mouths need to come with a warning label.
To answer your question, I do not leave the house without brushing my teeth and applying sunscreen, every day, 365 days a year. I apply sunscreen first thing because it needs to be on your skin 20-30 prior to exposure, but then that gives me time to brush & fluff myself presentable. 🙂

@JudiTierney that’s like nails on a chalkboard Judi! I have worn sunscreen religiously since 2008-I wish it had been sooner!

  • Judi.Tierney@yahoo.com

I’m so glad you use it. I promise you before you know it , you will be my age but you will look much younger! Don’t off get the backs of your hands and your ears.
My kids ,ove it, I have a whole new group of people to give my sunscreen lectures to, poor babies. You and them. 🙂

@Judi Oh I know about the hands and ears. I saw Madonna at her film premiere last year and the first thing I noticed were her hands! Ever since then I have been mindful….

  • Tamara

Hmmm.. I’ve converted to spray sunscreen for the body because I’ve always hated that heavy, gunky feeling of many sunscreens. This however sounds kind of amazing.. goes on like a lotion, smells great & protects? Gimmie..

..will keep an eye out for this at the store. Thanks for the review!

@Tamara I really like the spray on sunscreens myself-especially if I plan on being active in the sun. I wonder if Hawaiian Tropic will come out with a delicious smelling spray?

I am super fair-skinned, too. I have recently heard about Neutrogena’s SPF 70 and have to special order it through the pharmacy. I wonder if you know where I could buy SPF 85? I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada area.
