My favorite foundations for ‘mature faces’-spring edition

I can’t be the only person that switches products for the season.  Where I live, spring is finally starting to come around.  I can actually say that this year, I am glad to see winter retreat.  It dragged on for far too long.  I’m not looking forward to allergy season though.  This is the point during the year that my skin starts ‘talking’ to me-it starts out with a gentle reminder-a bit more oiliness and (if I don’t listen to it and adjust) then the pimples.   I usually start digging through my makeup drawers at this point, and lamenting over the fact that I forgot to buy sunscreen.  Again.  I also have neglected to schedule my spring facial treatment-super important to have a professional go over your skin.  I like to start with the best, cleanest canvas that I can!

I’ve pulled out some of my favorite products to use during my spring switcheroo-for my face of course.  I’d love to know if 1.  you switch up your face products for spring and 2.  what you use.  These are my picks.  Just as a reminder, I have combination skin with an oily T-zone.

Stila Stay all Day Foundation-before I post about this-oh my gosh, I just saw this on is an entire SET for a GREAT price.  Please check it out-I have used the foundation and concealer separately but at time of posting, have this in my cart and will probably have already purchased it.  I do like this foundation quite a bit-it STAYS ON and I mean it.  Formula is not heavy but make no mistake this is a full coverage foundation (although you could sheer it out).

stila Stay All Day Foundation, Concealer & Brush Kit, Bare

An oil-free, high definition, high performance foundation that “stays all day” and delivers a flawless finish. It is enriched with an array of skin loving ingredients, and unlike other long-wearing formulas, includes a synergistic combination of botanical extracts that have been shown to help enhance circulation and blood flow, resulting in an increase of oxygen being delivered to the skin and letting skin breathe. These innovative extracts also help to slow down the onset of premature aging and promote healthy, hydrated and vibrant skin. This multi-tasker also contains a creamy, full coverage concealer cleverly hidden inside the cap (along with a handy mirror) that instantly hides blemishes, dark circles and age spots creating an impeccable canvas for flawless makeup application. Product also comes with a spatula and brush for ease of application.

[Etude House] Real Powder Cushion SPF50+/PA+++ #02 Natural Beige:  I have a love-hate with cushions and for the past several months it had been a real ‘hate.’  I’ve worn cushion foundations before and usually adore the South Korean brands. What I have been noticing is the shade range on the Korean cushions is usually poor.  Even for my pale skin.  I usually would fall between 2 shades and even then I noticed a VERY gray cast.  So I was very pleased with this product from Etude House-I apply it with my Sigma F80 Kabuki brush.  I find that applying it with a brush versus the sponge gives better coverage.  This cushion is really made for girls with combination-oily skin as it has a powder finish.

This innovative multi-tasking powder cushion provides all-day flawless face makeup with light and powdery finish.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant MakeupThis product provides the ‘lightest’ amount of coverage out of all of the products I’m talking about in this post.  When I purchased this, I originally came to the counter for the ‘regular’ Double Wear but after trying it, felt it was too much (which is bonkers because I am ALL OVER that full coverage).  I am not crazy about the applicator on this product but like the product on days when I want coverage, but not a lot.  It feels weightless, but does even out and cover my imperfections.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup

An innovative, hydrating makeup stick Combines liquid makeup with applicator in one Features a weightless, pampering & comfortable formula Instantly hydrates skin & ensures 8-hour wear Polishes & evens skin tone for a healthy-looking glow Provides sheer to medium coverage Gives a natural, radiant & flawless finish

Dr. Jart Black Label Detox BB credit where credit is due, my friend Stacy introduced me to this product and I’m so glad she did.  Since then, I’ve purchased several more.  This is a Korean BB cream that comes in 1 shade. I actually prefer the Korean BB’s -they provide better coverage and usually have a higher SPF in them, along with ingredients that ‘better’ the skin.

  • A beauty balm that provides age defense and hides uneven skintone and blemishes
  • Contains botanical actives to purify and calm blemish-prone or irritated skin
  • Features SPF 25 sun protection
  • What it is formulated WITHOUT: Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates
  • Comes in one shade
It Cosmetics Celebration Foundation:  I bought this as a backup prior to L’Oreal purchasing It Cosmetics.  I absolutely love this product (not sure if the formulation will change under new ownership, I’m hoping it does not).  It covers so well and doesn’t feel or look like a powder.  I swirl it on with my Sigma F80 Kabuki or my IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Buffing Airbrush Foundation Brush for a naturally flawless  skin perfecting finish.
A full coverage, anti-aging hydrating powder foundation that truly gives you the power to achieve flawless, airbrushed complexion perfection in no time. Delivers highly pigmented perfect coverage that will never crease or crack and is designed to not only cover, but to make you skin appear younger at the same time. The anti-aging technology in this formula blurs away pores, fines lines and imperfections giving you a flawless airbrush finish that looks and feels like silk. It absorbs oil and shine, without settling into lines and wrinkles.
Clarins Ever Matte Foundation:  Full disclosure, I only have samples of this (2 to be exact) so take this with a grain of salt.   I do like this foundation-surprisingly.  I have used Clarins Quinoa foundation before-I believe it’s called Everlasting. I like that one but I like this one better-because of my skin type, a matte finish works ‘best’ on me.  This is a medium coverage product with SPF 15 (I have to use sunscreen under this).  I find it wears well on me-about 5 hours before I can see the breakdown (that’s post blot).  It does even out my skin tone and covers well.

The fluid, lightweight texture perfectly melts into the skin, allowing it to breathe without any drying effect. The complexion is enhanced with an imperceptible matte veil which remains flawless from morning to night.

And there you have it.  My favorite spring-ish foundations for mature faces/skin.  I’d love to hear what you wear in the spring or if you even bother switching it up?
Just in case you are wondering about the brushes I keep talking about:
Sigma F80 Flat Top Kabuki:  I seriously think of this brush as the ‘original’ foundation brush.  I’m dating myself by saying “I remember when you could only order this brush off the Sigma website with no tracking number option.”  Thank goodness it’s more ‘available’ now.  It’s a great brush for applying liquid foundations, powder foundations, and cushion foundations.  It’s reasonably priced too.  A good, solid foundation brush is a very wise investment.

It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Buffing Airbrush Foundation Brush-another great pick for applying foundation-especially the Celebration Foundation.  This brush has a decent amount of flex and bristles are tightly packed together, so no streaks upon application.
