Wax on, wax off with Sicilianna Beauty

Raise your hand if you’re sick of wearing your darkest sunglasses & non-descript outfit and driving to the out-of-your-neighborhood nails/wax shop. You know-the one where you walk in and there’s someone at the front table getting their acrylic tips airbrushed? You get your wax done, then you leave with a bright red upper lip and eyebrows? How will you ever explain that away to your spouse/significant/parent/sibling/child?

Let’s face it, waxing and hair removal is a part of life….and while it’s becoming more “normal” to talk about, how do you bring up in everyday conversation that you’re looking for an extra-special-someone to rip your hair out by the roots?

If you’re in the GTA or any other metropolis, there are hundreds of places you could go….from the shop scenario I described above to upscale salons/spas. But you need to feel comfortable-especially if your waxer is going to be in areas that are normally reserved for certain pairs of eyes 🙂

Since I’m getting older, hair removal has moved up on my ‘beauty priority list’ and lately I’ve been noticing this increased hair on my face more and more. I want to feel comfortable and confident wearing my hair up and exposing my hairline. I knew there was only one person for this job…..and it’s Anna.

sicilianna

I’ve known Anna for several years-she is in my ‘blogging circle.’ I actually met her at a blushpretty workshop-I believe it was a contouring one (but correct me if I’m wrong A).  She recently (and I’m not sure how recently) starting offering waxing services/lash extensions out of her very own studio!

anna

Anna is warm, inviting, but most of all professional.  She gave me a thorough once-over and suggested some areas I focus on and I gave her the green light and free reign over my face.  I want the hair gone!  Anna uses hard wax and traditional wax with strips.  The hard wax grabs the more stubborn hair apparently….and that’s what is used more frequently during a Brazilian wax. I did not get a Brazilian, and don’t think I could endure that “procedure”!

Zip, zip, zip and I was through.  Anna applied a soothing aloe product to my skin.  She tidied up my brows for me, which are a constant source of frustration for me.  She even gave me a suggestion and a plan for maintaining my skin post-wax and frequency of future appointments!  While it wasn’t entirely pain free (and it shouldn’t be, after all someone is ripping your hair out of your face by the ROOT), I felt comfortable during the process and put my hair up into a ponytail when I returned home.  YAY!

Do yourself a favor and stay on top of your hair removal-start by finding a person who is qualified and professional like Anna.

P.S. Anna did not ask me to post about her nor did I receive complimentary service.  This is me talking to you about a great esthetician!

L’Oreal EverSleek Precious Oil Treatment-yes please!

I’ve been making drastic changes to my hair for as long as I can remember. From blonde to red to auburn to chocolate brown, I have put my hair through the ringer.  So I wasn’t at all surprised when I went to see a stylist (for a wedding I was to attend) and she replied, “Wow, why is your hair so dry? I can’t even pull the brush through it.” Was that comment snarky? Yes.  Was it completely unwarranted? No. When I returned home that night, I dove into my bathroom hair closet (yes I have several shelves devoted to hair products) for some immediate intervention.

Suprisingly enough, I hadn’t even opened this product. I have had several horrific experiences at salons who would pile on the Moroccan oil, and several hours later, my locks were limp and greasy. No thank you.  However, I knew that this was an intervention and it was time to get serious about restoring my hair’s lustre.

From the box:

EverSleek Precious Oil Treatment is a luxurious cocktail with precious Argan Oil from Morocco, and Sunflower Oil.  It instantly infuses hair to condition and seal in salon-smoothness.  This ultra-silky formula immediately absorbs into hair without feeling greasy or heavy so hair flows with movement.  Supremely sleek, purely luminous and 100% frizz defiant.  Perfect for all hair types.

Instructions:

Apply 1-2 pumps evenly through damp hair.  Avoid the roots. Do not rinse.  Style as usual.   Apply 1 pump on dry hair to add shine.

How I use it:

I use this oil on dry hair at night AND in the morning. I use 1-2 pumps at night the night before I wash my hair and use it on my ends in the morning.  I find it a lot lighter and easier to work with than Moroccan Oil.  While it IS possible to overdo it with this oil, following the instructions should keep you in the clear.

Results:

I’ve been using this for several weeks in addition to giving my hair a treatment twice a week.  Honestly, I’m not sure when my hair has felt better (of course I mean when I style it-it is usually awesome when I leave the salon after having a professional treatment/style).  I do like it-the texture, the fragrance (which is light but it IS there) and the results.  It’s less expensive than Moroccan oil but yields fantastsic results!

Overall, I do recommend this product.  It’s helped bring my hair back to life!

Weekly makeup basket recap!!!

1. Marcelle CC cream 12 in 1 benefits (which I won’t list here) but my favorite things about it include:  evens out skintone, controls shine, SPF 35, offers *better* coverage than most North American CC creams.
2.  Marcelle DD cream 10 in 1 benefits. My favorite things about it include: tightens pores, evens and smoothes skin tone, controls shine, SPF 25, improves radiance.  This is the product I used when I decided to brave the cold!
3.  Urban decay b6 vitamin infused complexion prep spray. I love this spray and a lot of people don’t.  I like it because:  it reduces redness, minimizes pores, and absorbs oil.
4.  Annabelle mineral powder blush.  Sadly, I don’t believe this product is made anymore?  I couldn’t find it on the website.  However, if you do some quick googling, you may still be able to find it for sale (ebay, amazon).  I do like it very much-haven’t used a loose powder blush in FOREVER.  It’s the right amount of pigment and the color is beautiful.
5. Annabelle eyeshadow quad in chai chai chai.  If you are a neutral lover, then this is a ‘must-have’ for you.  This quad looks amazing with any eye color.  The eyeshadows are very soft and buttery (I’d compare them to Urban Decay naked eyeshadow formula), and do NOT disappoint in terms of pigment and payoff.  Absolutely beautiful and high quality for a drugstore brand. VERY IMPRESSED.
6.  Annabelle twist up crayon in Absolute.  Even if you don’t like the color of this crayon, there are over 20 shades to choose from.  I’m a huge fan of crayons-mainly because they are super portable, and easy to apply.  I haven’t checked the entire collection out, but I have several of these and this is one of my favorites.
YES I REALIZE I MISSED 7.  GAH!
8..  Marcelle mascara waterproofing top coat.  This is a genius idea.  Now I can wear my favorite non-waterproof mascara and not have to worry about raccoon eyes!

WHOAH-check out this look…..Holiday or everyday? Tell me!

I don’t often do this, but I like this look SO DANG MUCH, I have to post it so you can see it and duplicate it!

Lego_Email_Blast2.1.1This look is beautiful for your latest  office party….or the evening mass, or New Years Eve (of course).  If you’re me, you would wear it to work! Isn’t it beautiful? It’s the perfect blend of gold and smokey….I just adore it.

So obviously I’m late posting this. Honestly, I am going to replicate this for my next ‘special occasion’-I just can’t stop staring at it!

Tell me about your latest look or your ‘go-to’ party look…..have any suggestions for me?
