My favorites from…… Marcelle!

Marcelle was one of the very first Canadian cosmetics brands I was introduced to.  I’ve been using it for almost the entire time I’ve been in Canada (just over 5 years). Marcelle also offers skin care but I am out of most of that at the moment so I’ll have to save it for another post.

I’ll have to start with my Marcelle BB, CC, and now DD creams which I’m in love with!  I had heard of BB creams before because I was stationed in South Korea for 2 years while serving in the U.S. Army.  When Marcelle revealed their BB cream, I was definitely impressed.  It had the coverage of an “Asian” BB, without the typical grey cast.

I have a review posted (or will have one shortly posted) about this CC cream so I won’t go into too much detail here only to say that I am enjoying using this product.  It’s infused with 24k gold and glides on the skin.  It’s also supposed to reduce the appearance of dark spots, a big selling point with me due to my hyperpigmentation.

Imagine my surprise when I walked into my local rexall and saw this on the Marcelle display.  Had no idea it was coming out, didn’t know what to think of it.  So I tried it out at the store and was immediately sold.  Great coverage, with broad spectrum protection from UVB rays? Sold! Look for an upcoming blog post on this product.

Just the color of this pencil made my mouth water….and I was even more pleased with the creamy application.  This is a waterproof pencil however, it is so easy to blend and is so intensely pigmented.  What more could a girl ask for?  Oh how about 16 different shades?

You know how I feel about the twisty Dalton cosmetics mascara…..well, this version from Marcelle (Twist-push-up) is quite a bit different.  This wand was designed to literally ‘push-up’ your lashes.  Don’t believe me? Give it a try…then twist the brush to pull the bristles together, and apply a 2nd coat for volume.  It’s really not too good to be true….it works.  Brilliant!

Not sure if this is available (yet) as it was sent to me for review but boy oh boy, ladies-get your hands on one of these crayons as soon as your can.  This is also a twist up and the color you see in the photo is what you are going to get on your lips.  If you like high pigment/color payoff and easy, hydrating application, this ones for you. I love a good red lip but hate the process with the lip liner, the color, the powder blot.  This is a product that will go easily into any handbag, even the smallest clutch so touch-ups aren’t so tedious.

If you haven’t tried Marcelle, you should! Enough said!

Review! Marcelle CC cream

BB, now CC! Yes it’s true-Marcelle has come out with a CC cream.  I picked this up at  my local Rexall and have used it several times.

From the box:

Infused with pure 24k gold, CC cream is a lightweight texture tinted cream that diminishes the appearance of dark spots and skin tone imperfections that can be caused by sun exposure or the aging of skin.

CC cream can replace these products from your daily routine:

Powerful moisturizer: helps protect skin from dryness and improve its appearance.

Tinted corrector: corrects skin imperfections and evens out skin tone.

Make up Base: helps hold your make-up all day.

Sunscreen: protects skin from UVA and UVB rays.

May be worn alone, or after your day cream, and/or before your usual foundation for more coverage.

Nice box and packaging-with a pump delivery system. The CC cream itself is a tad thicker than foundation but not ‘heavy’ if that makes any sense.  Here it is on my hand:

This is a smooth cream that applies well to skin. I used it with a primer.  Coverage is light to medium. I used a pressed powder compact with SPF to add more coverage to my t-zone where I have hyperpigmentation.  The cream has a light fragrance but nothing heavy and it doesn’t stick around.  Here’s how it looks when blended.

Overall I do like this product quite a bit.  It provides a decent amount of coverage and feels light on the skin.  Time will tell if my dark spots diminish over time but I’m not holding my breath and not concerned about it.  This product earns a thumbs up from me and I suggest you go pick it up or at least try it at your local drugstore!

My favorites from…… Caryl Baker

The third post in the ‘my favorites’ series, Caryl Baker came to mind.

Caryl Baker is a Canadian based company that has boutique stores across Canada offering cosmetics and skin care (products and services).   At first glance, I didn’t know what to make of the brand as I had no knowledge prior to landing in Canada.  However, I’ve grown fond of some of the products….see below!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again….I won’t lie to you and tell you my skin always behaves because it does NOT.  Especially when I choose to indulge in treats or go through the hormonal days of being a woman.  There are many many ways to treat skin that ‘acts out’ and I’ve talked about several of them.  However, what if you want to treat your skin a little bit more naturally?

New Series! My favorites from……L’Oréal Paris!

I’ve decided to really look ‘within’ …….my stash that is.  I’m going to be attempting a new series on my blog with the above title.  Hopefully, I’ll be able to post once a week with favorites from a particular brand.  That’s certainly the idea anyway.  I thought I would kick things off with L’Oréal Paris since I have tried a wide range of their products and skin care.

L’Oreal Paris steps up their skin care game with Youth Code Texture Perfector

I have a “thing” for the Youth Code line….and who wouldn’t? Like every other 40-something I am searching high and low for that fountain of youth.  L’Oreal has given me a reason to run… the drugstore! L’Oreal Paris introduces Youth Code texture perfector skincare that targets texture imperfections to reveal smoother, more even-looking skin in as little as one week.  The newest additions to the popular Youth Code family of products are designed to perfect skin’s quality by refining the look of fine lines, pores, and uneven texture for a flawless, airbrushed look.

L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche press on nails-not your average press on!

I don’t know a woman, cross-dresser, or drag queen in North America that hasn’t used press-on nails at least once!  I remember the “Lee press ons” craze that swept the US in the late 80’s.  They were so convenient and made french manicures so simple……but alas, that was pretty much all there was, wasn’t there? Solid colors or french manicures.

Well, press on nails have come a long way baby!  L’Oreal Paris has introduced a new collection that you simply must try!  These aren’t your “Lee press on” type nails-sure there are french manicure styles available but there are so many patterns and designs to choose from!  Even better, the technology has evolved to the point where these nails will stay on for longer than your next stage debut errrrr I mean event.

I normally wear a gel lacquer on my nails (shellac, et al.) but decided to take a break from all of that and I know it’s wise to kind of ‘cycle’ on and off these lacquer polishes, leaving my nails in need of some TLC.  After a thorough manicure with a LOT of cuticle work, I decided against polish of any sort.  However, what is a girl to do when she heads to the office? Weak, brittle nails? No thanks, how about a french manicure with a twist?

terrible flash I know but I have since destroyed the package so this is it!

How to apply:

1. Clean and wash hands thoroughly.

2.  Select correct size of press-on nail for each finger.

3. Apply adhesive stickers slightly smaller than each natural nail-peel off backing.

4.  Apply press-on nails then press down the middle and down each side firmly.

5. For best wear, repress a few times and avoid contact with water for the first hour.

L’Oreal Colour Riche Press-On Nails come with 24 nails in 12 sizes and boast an impressive 7 day wear with no liquid glue! There are 8 different designs available in July 2013 with a suggested retail price of $14.99 CAD. Cuticle pusher included!

Neat, sweet, chic!
