My favorites……from Covergirl!

2 of these products are courtesy of #BeautyUnited! Because I am a part of #BeautyUnited, I will occasionally receive products for review. This will *never* change my opinion of the products but I want to mention it first!

Covergirl hasn’t been on my radar-until lately. I know that other YouTube ‘gurus’ and bloggers have sworn by their products for years.  However, I’ve found several Covergirl products have made their way into my rotation.

IMG_3479

This is my latest favorite-and I’d like to thank Stacy (Stacysunnysidemakeup on YouTube) for turning me on to this product.  It’s great on its own but I find that it plays SO well with other mascaras.  I’ve just recently started exploring layering mascaras and this has worked out so well.  It’s not going to make your wallet cry either so I highly suggest that you pick this up.  My only caveat….and it’s minor is that you will NEED an eye makeup remover to take this off as it will not come off with water.  I happen to consider that a positive-raccoon eyes are so not my thing!

IMG_3480

Another YouTuber recommendation is the CoverGirl +Olay Eye Rehab 2 in 1 Brightening Concealer and Olay Hydrating serum.  I’ve been having to rely on concealer more heavily more recently (unfortunately).  I have 2 or 3 high end concealers that I swear by but this one stands up to the job as well.  The consistency is a gel/mousse and it DOES NOT CAKE UP.  It applies so well and the shade I have just works so well for my skin tone.  Again, another product that deserves a swatch/purchase.

IMG_3481

I can’t specifically thank ONE particular blogger/YouTuber for this purchase because I have watched SO many videos/read so many blogs about this foundation.  Since my skin is going through it’s oily phase this product really does the job.  It’s a long wearing foundation with a natural finish.  I can’t use it without a primer but it does contain one. Coverage is medium and buildable so if you are looking for a full coverage product, you can achieve it.  This product is a bit more expensive than most drugstore foundations but I’ve seen it on promotion and have seen coupons for it more than once.

I’d love to know more about your Covergirl favorites-what should I try?  Tell me in the comments section below.

Where have you been all my life Vichy Idealia Serum?

*This review contains a product sent for review*

What does ‘Behavioral Aging’ mean to you?  It didn’t mean much to me until I saw Vichy’s newest serum, the Idealia Life Serum.  If you need a more formal definition:

‘Behavioral aging is the visible result of everything our skin is subjected to, whether through our lifestyle, behaviors, or the environments in which we live.”

Hey guess what? Your daily activities……they show up. ON YOUR  SKIN….and they show up differently on everyone.  These ‘enemies’  that accelerate aging can include:

-lack of sleep

-pollution

-stress

-unbalanced diet

-lack of exercise

-hormonal imbalances

-UV rays

-dry weather

Vichy Idealia life serum (LR2412+LHA) claims to give an even and illuminated complexion, refined looking pores, and rested facial features.  This serum promotes “good skin behavior.”  After applying, skin should look radiant and fresh, better in 8 days, and even better in 4 weeks.

This particular ingredient LR2414 is derived from jasmonic acid (yes, jasmine) and is inspired by the repair process of jasmne in its natural state, which responds to aggressions by secreting a repairing acid.   It accelerates epidermal repair and improves the skin’s ability to protect itself.  Let’s get it on my face already!

LR2414 + LHA:  this is a first time coupling-LHA is a derivate of salicylic acid that stimulates cellular renewal in tired skin.  It improves the quality of skin by increasing the reflection of light on the surface of the skin.

So, these 2 active ingredients improve the skin texture by acting on the skin surface!

So of course, I had to get my hands on this…..I haven’t had a full nights sleep in about 5 years!  I wish I was kidding.  Before I get to my thoughts about the product, a bit more about the product itself:

1.  has a light, non-greasy texture that also acts as a barrier to protect the skin from the evils it may come into contact with throughout the day.

2.  light, delicate floral hypoallergenic scent-it is  light but *please* note-fragrance sensitive people, there IS a fragrance.

3. formula is ideal for sensitive skin

4. 30ml is $59.00 CAD

Thoughts-after using for 2 weeks:

1. Scent is quite pleasant….I actually want to put this on my face partially because of the scent.

2.  packaging is pretty, but it’s glass so be careful! Love the pump dispenser…..for serum, that’s ESSENTIAL

I have seen a difference in my skin’s texture after using it for 2 weeks. Immediately after I apply the serum, my skin feels firmer, and it appears brighter.  I have noticed that it allows my moisturizer to apply SO much better and penetrate deeper.  My skin feels fresh after using.  Overall, I am happy with this product.  I do realize some may be a bit intimidated by the price….but to be honest, this serum functions like many of it’s higher end competitors for a much lower price point, making it entirely worth it.

If you’re still skeptical, many drugstores have testers….try it out on your hand and walk around for a minute or two.  It’s a great product, and one I’ll use until it runs out.  I’m anxious to see what my results will be after 8 weeks!

Have you tried Vichy Idealia?  What are your thoughts on your own skin behavior?  Tell me about it in the comments below…..

My favorites from…….Clarins!

Not too many makeup items here-I don’t know about your area, but in Canada, when Clarins releases a new collection, if you’re not there to get it when the store doors open, you will miss out.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to pick up a lipstick or powder and they are completely SOLD OUT.  Frustrating, but it does speak to the brand’s popularity.  For now though, let me entertain you with my favorites:

3dot

Clarins 3 dot liner has been on my list for awhile now.  If you know me even a LITTLE bit, you will know how much I abhor tightlining (a.k.a. lining the upper water line to give the appearance of bigger, lush, lashes and eyes).  It feels weird, and my eyeliner runs (and I’ve tried more than 1 type of waterproof eyeliner).   This product allows me to press gently in-between my upper lashes in order to achieve the same look sans weirdness!  Brilliant!

beautyflashbalm

Beauty flash Balm-which I’m currently out of.  I’ll never forget the guy who showed me this product at the Clarins Counter at Eaton Centre (I have got to go back and visit him-he was so great!).  This is the perfect little bit of highlight for people who don’t highlight.  It’s subtle, but it’s there….it looks fresh and radiant.

lotusfaceoil

Face treatment oil-I love oils for the face.  Love love love them.  This is one of my *newer* favorites-especially since as of late, my skin has taken a turn for the oily.  This product balances my skin, I use it at night only!  Since I’ve started to use the product, I don’t have to wash my face in the morning….I just splash water on it, eye cream, serum, moisturize and I’m done.

bodyoil

Body treatment oil-I’ve had cellulite since I was a tween….and I was a tween before the word tween was even invented!  *GASP*

Seriously though, I have some dimples here and there (if you need to explore that, go to the posts where I talk about my many many different body sizes over the years right here).  I think everyone has some areas that they’d like to firm up and that’s just what can be accomplished with this product.  This is another product that I use at night, and it’s actually recommended that you shower after using it (leaving it on for 20 minutes or so). I often use it at night and shower it off the next morning.  I love the fragrance as well.

And there you have it, my Clarins favorites.  I’m interested in exploring more of this brand so let me know your favorites in the comments section below!

My favorites from……Revlon!

We all know Revlon’s been on ‘the scene’ for awhile now….and for me, this brand had always been around but nothing I was running after anyone for (especially after the lip butters).  However, there are several products from Revlon that I do truly adore and thought I’d mention!

IMG_3429

Revlon Colorstay whipped foundation in 200 sand beige

Revlon Colorstay whipped foundation in 200 sand beige

If you watch my YouTube channel, you’ll  know this is one of the foundations I’ve been going on about.  I absolutely love it….the finish, the texture, the application are so easy and flawless.   This foundation is a medium to full coverage, and I apply it with my Urban Decay Good Karma brush.

Revlon Photoready cream blush in flushed

Revlon Photoready cream blush in flushed

This was one of my first cream blushes. I originally bought it because I wanted to try cream blush but didn’t want to invest in a more expensive one (although I’m quite certain I bought a MAC version around the same time).  This color may look intimidating but never fear, its sheer!  I like this blush because it’s super blendable and easy to layer with other colors!

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick from L: Black Cherry, Foxy Lady

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick from L: Black Cherry, Foxy Lady

I’ll call these my ‘latest loves.’  Back in High School-and I won’t tell you what 4 years that was…..my standard lippie was “Wine with Everything” which is a color that Revlon still makes and I’d still wear.  However, I’m not sure if they have reformulated these or what but I am loving everything about these 2.  They have great payoff and are soft on the lips.  I’m definitely fall-ing for fall colors (GROAN-terrible pun).

So there you have it, my Revlon faves……I know you’ve got some of your own.  What are they?  Let me know in the comments section below.

What a great way……to spend a Monday night! MissAvaCado at Tips Nail Bar and the benefits of avocados for beauty!

Anyone who follows me on instagram knows that my nail game is TIGHT.  When Miss Sandy Avvari & Janine Falcon asked me if I’d like to learn more about avocado and beauty treatments, I was all over it!

I’m no stranger to Tips Nail Bar-but haven’t been since their recent (fairly) renovation.  Allow me to show you around briefly.

Nice, eh (look I used a Canadian word!)?  Now, onto Miss Ava Cado:

Miss Ava Cado

Miss Ava Cado

I learned a lot about the benefits of using avocados in beauty treatments-specifically in a hand treatment. Here is the recipe for the treatment I received:

1/4 fully ripened avocado

1 egg white

2 tablespoons rolled oats (highly absorbtive)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Directions:

In shallow bowl, mash avocado until smooth. Add egg white, oats, and lemon juice.   Massage into hands, leave on for 20 minutes, rinse with warm water.

So, I must say that this not only leaves my hands super soft, but that it brightens them….must be the lemon juice!  I highly recommend it.

After the avocado hand treatment

After the avocado hand treatment

There’s also a recipe for a hair mask (which I didn’t get but I’m up for trying this weekend).  If the hair mask works even half as well as the hand treatment, I am SOLD.

1 full ripened avocado

1 egg yolk (tip: do the hand treatment and the hair mask on the same day!)

1/2 teaspoon olive oil (I’m probably going to try argan oil)

Directions:

In shallow bowl, mash avocado until smooth.  Add egg yolk and oil, stir until combined. Divide hair into sections, apply mixture to hair by massaging into each section, concentrating on ends.  Allow to penetrate 30 minutes, rinse with warm water.

And why stop there?  How about some Face masks with avocado?

Add avocado to yogurt, honey to make a moisturizing mask.  Add lemon juice and egg white to avocado for a mask to balance oily skin!

Of course, avocados are yummy to eat as well:

avacado snacks!

Although it may not be ‘new’ news, don’t overlook avocados when it comes to beauty!!

Thank you to Tips Nail Bar , Janine Falcon, and Sandy Avvari for inviting me!

Oh the places I’ve been……the shOws TO!

This post made possible by the wonderful people at MSL group- #beautyunited!

My blog is mostly beauty oriented but occasionally I’ll venture into the fashion world.  I was absolutely delighted to learn that I had won tickets to the first night of the shOws in Toronto on October 9th.  This show was held at Andrew Richards designs and I have to say that this was the BEST use of this space that I have ever seen!   In case you didn’t know (and I know I didn’t),  here’s a little blurb from the website:

“Our aim is to put the spotlight on Canadian Designers, Hair and Makeup Artists and Models and build a property that benefits not only our designers, artists and retailers but also our supportive sponsors, by showcasing the very best of Canadian talent at home and abroad to our media, buyers and stylists.

The purpose of The ShOws is to bring together our most talented and creative Canadian designers each season and allow them to present their collections here in Toronto to the fashion industry without incurring any production costs themselves. We want to support them here at home and give them every possible opportunity to continue to build their brands.”

I was selected to participate in backstage interviews….and I’m sure you have seen it before, but in case you have not, it can be described as ‘beautiful chaos.’  Here’s my point of view:

IMG_3412IMG_3413IMG_3414IMG_3415

I was also delighted to attend the Bellavance and Calla fashion shows…..every seat was a good one, and I can now truly appreciate the work that goes into the behind the scenes setup.  I also realized that when I attend future fashion shows, I will be bringing my SLR camera in order to capture the models, as well as my digital recorder (although I prefer a notebook and pen! That’s my generation X speaking).

So let’s get to the important stuff-the photos!

The looks:

Bellavance:

IMG_0481IMG_0482

IMG_0492IMG_0495IMG_0493Hair& Makeup-Bellavance:

-Justin created a ‘shaved head’ appearance by pulling the hair to one side, and braiding it underneath (see photo above) to keep the hair in place.  I remember when a ton of my classmates did that for REALS in the 90’s.  This look is fresh!

-Amelie used Cover Girl flamed out pencils in a thicker line underneath the eye to “open it up.”  The Cover Girl clean whipped makeup foundation was used to keep the face fresh. I’m loving the ‘modern matte’ finish of this particular foundation.  Cover Girl Smoochies were used on the lips.

Calla:

IMG_0501IMG_0500IMG_0499IMG_0487IMG_0498

Hair & Makeup-Calla:

-Braids, braids, braids everywhere!  The string/fabric was woven in-slightly boho-chic!

-Makeup was clean and uncomplicated, but complimenting the hair and clothing.

*Yes these runway looks were achieved using Cover Girl and Pantene products!*

And now, the runway-and I point out (again) this is the main reason for my upcoming shift to a higher grade camera/recording device!

IMG_0506IMG_0512IMG_0522IMG_0523

It was a fantastic evening, that’s for sure-I am so grateful to Jennifer, Alyssa and the lovely people at MSL group for giving me the opportunity to attend.  Also, huge shout outs to all the designer talent, as well as Justin and Emelie!  It was a night to remember!

My favorites from……essence!

I’ve got to put up a drugstore brand.  Essence has been a love of mine ever since it ‘landed’ in Canada several years ago.  I’m super impressed that nothing in the line is over $9.99 CAD.  LIKE SUPER IMPRESSED.

My favorites from…….Urban Decay!

As a loyal, loyal UDPP user for several years, it’s only right that I talk about Urban Decay.  They have SO SO many items and I have so few of them.  As I write now, I remember that I have forgotten to take a photo of one of my favorite Urban Decay Tools (the Good Karma brush).  So while my sampling of favorites may seem small, keep in mind that I’ve got a lot of love for UD.

IMG_3396

So of course, it wouldn’t be a UD favorites post without featuring an eyeshadow palette or thirty.  I’ve selected the NAKED 2 and NAKED basics.  My NAKED palette bit the dust but I’m going to circle back and pick up another because I’ve found that these shades just work.  And when I say they work, I mean with almost everything.  They blend so easily, they are rich and soft, well pigmented and play well with others.  I’ve been working a lot with my basics palette and using those shadows as crease colors and transition shades (which I still need help with so if you have any tips, leave me a comment below!).  Anyhow, these are beyond swatch-worthy and any self respecting makeup lover should have one of them in his/her arsenal.  I also like that UD makes palettes in a wide array of price ranges….so if you can’t afford the vice 2 or smoked palette, you could pick up the ammo palette and still have a nice selection of eye shadows.  Anyhow, enough of me, let’s look at the palettes:

NAKED 2 palette

And what better to apply these lovely shadows with then an eyeshadow primer?  Urban Decay Primer Potion is an absolute staple for me. I don’t apply eyeshadow without it.  It’s what works for my lids….and I’ve tried a LOT of products (there is one product that comes close and if you want to know about that, let me know in the comments below).  I love that UDPP comes in a variety of finishes….the one I’m using now is ‘Eden’ but I also love the original and am dying to try Sin.

Finally, something new from UD that’s come into my life recently that I don’t want to do without are the Revolution lipsticks.  These lipsticks have MAJOR stay power but are still hydrating and don’t pull on your lips during application.  I think I am the only person on the planet who didn’t get the shade, 69 but whatever. There are 22 of them and I’ll work my way through them eventually. I love love LOVE this one:

And there you have it…..

I know you must have tried Urban Decay-what are your favorites? Tell me below!

I can’t get enough of……In the Buff Spa!

ilike

I won’t lie, this post may have a very positive slant….after all, I do know Naomi Mundy fairly well. But that won’t stop me from telling you about the treatment I received in an unbiased manner-just note, that I truly did enjoy the treatment and that should resonate in this post.

My favorites from….Too Faced

I actualy don’t have a lot of TooFaced but recognized them for their ‘box’ type tin palettes and of course, Shadow Insurance.  However, some items I really truly enjoy come from this brand so without further ado,

IMG_3378

IMG_3380

Of course, mostly palettes!  So let me start with one of my very first, that just happened to be a gift from a YouTuber (Stacysunnysidemakeup and yes, check her out). This palette contains beautiful neutrals and divides the colors into day, fashion and night looks.  I’m not one to follow the rules much so I use whatever colors I feel I want to rock that particular day.  This palette is a beautiful addition to any neutral lovers collection!

IMG_3381

When I saw this palette I had to grab it.  Just so much going on in one tin!  I do adore it for its versatility but I find that out of the 3 palettes I have from this brand, this is the one I reach for the least!  I’m not a huge fan of shadow insurance which is why that is still sitting there….for some reason, I have some ‘staying power’ issues with the shadows.  Love the blush though!

IMG_3379

This is my latest addition from TooFaced and let’s just say I AM A FAN.  I was just about to pull the trigger on the UD Smoked when I saw this. Based on the pink alone, I knew I had to have it.  Surprisingly, I haven’t touched the pink …..yet.  This palette (like most other Too Faced palettes) comes with cards that explain different looks.   The look I like the best so far from this palette is 9 to 5 rebel.  The colors are strong and vibrant and the glitzy/girly one will surprise you.  So many different combinations to be had with some quality shadows.  This is a must and I’m glad I picked it up!

IMG_3382

No one will be surprised when I say that I picked this blush for the packaging alone.  It’s surprisingly sheer but I don’t see that as a bad thing.  I appreciate the different tones in this blush…but will say if you don’t like shimmer, pass this one by.  The heart shaped packaging is an added bonus in my eyes 🙂

And there you have it….not too many products but enough for me to form an opinion. Overall I like TooFaced and plan on engaging with them more in the future 😉
