My favorite foundations for ‘mature faces’-spring edition

I can’t be the only person that switches products for the season.  Where I live, spring is finally starting to come around.  I can actually say that this year, I am glad to see winter retreat.  It dragged on for far too long.  I’m not looking forward to allergy season though.  This is the point during the year that my skin starts ‘talking’ to me-it starts out with a gentle reminder-a bit more oiliness and (if I don’t listen to it and adjust) then the pimples.   I usually start digging through my makeup drawers at this point, and lamenting over the fact that I forgot to buy sunscreen.  Again.  I also have neglected to schedule my spring facial treatment-super important to have a professional go over your skin.  I like to start with the best, cleanest canvas that I can!

The Best BB Creams for Dry Skin – My Picks

Surprisingly enough I get a LOT of requests about my recommendations as to what is the best BB creams for dry skin. My skin is combination-oily meaning I have an oily t-zone and ‘normal’ skin on my chin, cheeks, and forehead. But I constantly get asked about BB creams for dry skin so I thought I’d mention some. These are products I have tried-some of them worked for me even though I have oily skin and some were definitely for people with dry skin. Read below for my top recommendations for BB cream for dry skin.  Let me know if you have tried any of these or have additional suggestions.

Catch your interest?  I won’t make this post long and fluffy.  Basically, I adore this BB cream for more than one reason.

Details:

All-In-One BB cream transforms from a white cream to suit your skin tone. Pigment-filled capsules burst when applied to the skin, releasing the colour inside. Just blend for a perfect match and an even, undetectable finish. It’s make-up and skincare in one.

  • Adapts to your skin tone
  • Light to medium coverage
  • Even finish
  • 24-hour hydration
  • Non-clogging

It also smells terrific-I get honey when I sniff it.

So yeah, I do like it-it’s a good match for me (even now when I have ‘summer color’).  Here’s how it blends out:

Okay so overall do I recommend this product? Sure….but here’s what it’s lacking:

-SPF!  WHY BODY SHOP WHY? I need the SPF!!!!  Great coverage, more ‘natural’ then the average drugstore or prestige brand BB, but no SPF!!! WAH.

Eh, it’s not the end of the world-I use this AFTER applying sunscreen to my face.  I suppose adding the SPF would make the product less ‘natural.’  I still wish it was in there though.  It would be ‘HG’ worthy (Holy grail).

I’ve raved about the Idealia serum way back when….and for good reason! It’s amazing! So check out these new products from Vichy (well one is the serum 🙂 ).

weekly recap!

Here’s what’s been rocking my world this past week!

all-in-one-bb-cream_l

The Body Shop All in one BB cream: Wow, did they change the formula on this product. I had used it long ago, and it certainly wasn’t THIS good. This is a skin adapting formula, it dispenses white, and then changes color to suit skin tone.  It provides light-medium coverage, is SO light feeling and feels so wonderful on the skin.  It’s made with natural ingredients, and the first scent I get when applying is honey.

marcelletwistupMarcelle Twist Push-Up mascara: I’ve got major love for Marcelle mascaras but this this one holds a special place in my <3.  I selected this photo so you could see that the brush contracts.  The brush in extended position is for length and in the contracted position, provides volume. The formulas on Marcelle mascaras are AMAZING and I highly recommend you get your hands on some or make friends with someone in Canada (me) that can send you some.

diorespiegleDior addict lipstick in Espiegle: I sure can’t pronounce the name of this lipstick but I do love it.  It’s such a great shade of pink, sheer on the lips and hydrating.  The only ‘down’ side is that you WILL be reapplying and reapplying this lippie.

poppy citrine blossomCoach Poppy Citrine Blossom perfume is just about the perfect blend of florals for spring transitioning into summer.  I love that it’s a light fragrance but still lasts all day. It’s heavy on the floral upon application but has a crisp finish which I adore.

dark-shadows-nyx-crimson-amulet-palette

I am so thankful for people like @jillojello who gift me fabulous items like the Crimson Amulet collection palette by NYX.  The shadows worked extremely well (with primer) but I fell hard for the blush (2nd from top).  It was just amazing!  I’m happy to have this palette and I”ll be even happier to have it for travel.  I could take this on my next trip and only need to bring a foundation! YES!

Let’s dive right in, shall we?

IMG_3284

Vegetable Cleanser:

-Fragrance free, oil free, made for all skin

A vegetable based cleanser and makeup remover that dissolves and removes impurities from the face and delicate eye area.  Clarifying, soothing, and moisturizing ingredients help improve skin smootheness, elasticity and radiance.  Oil, fragrance and color free, this gentle formula is ideal for cleansing sensitive skin types, especially post-microdermabrasion and laser-treated skin.

Used! My thoughts:

-This cleanser does not foam much so if you like bubbles, skip it

-I still use a makeup remover for my eye makeup

-This cleanser really does NOT have a fragrance, making it ideal for those who are sensitive!

-This cleanser is decent, and leaves your skin clean but not itchy and tight.

AHA+BHA Daily Peel Pads Step 1 & 2

AHA+BHA Daily Peel Pads Step 1 & 2

AHA+BHA Daily Peel Pads:

-With alpha and beta hydroxy acids

A sophisticated 2-step daily peel formulated with alpha and beta hydroxy acids to exfoliate skin cells and help increase cellular turnover.

Step 1:  cleanses skin and better prepares it for…

Step 2:  the peel!   This advanced formula helps to minimize the apprearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots, create a more even skin tone and increase skin brightness and clarity.  Skin feels revitalized and fresh, and stays moisturized thanks to hydrating ingredients that help prevent skin from over drying.

Brightening Mask

Brightening Mask

Brightening Mask

-With BMC Oligopeptide Anti-Aging Complex, made for all skin types, paraben-free

A unique, hydrating, brightening mask which revitalizes, nourishes and conditions skin, while helping to fight the look of wrinkles, and mottled yellowish skin.  The formula contains vitamin C and Bio-Maple which helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and improve skin tone and elasticity.  It also helps to brighten skin tone, refine its texture and promote its natural appearance, revealing a fresher complexion.

Used! My thoughts:

-This mask has what I’d call a ‘clinical’ smell so if you are sensitive to fragrance or don’t like clinics (har har har), then I’d really think twice.

-This is one of my favorite products so far.  It truly does brighten my skin after I use it and I LOVE that.

Diatomamaus Earth Mask

Diatomamaus Earth Mask

Diatomamaus Earth Mask

-Dry to normal skin

Formulated with diatomamus earth rich in natural minerals including magnesium, iron, calcium and sodium that help retain moisture while absorbing excess sebum.  A blend of unique moisturizers, botanical extracts and vitamins enrich the skin, retain moisture while absorbing excess sebum.

Used! My thoughts:

-I used this when my skin was acting out, around “that time” of the month.  It absorbs excess oil for sure and you will see that on your skin when you apply the mask.

-I thought for sure this one was going to dry my skin or leave patches but it sure didn’t and I like that.

-If I had to pick between the 2 masks, I would still reach for the brightening more BUT this mask is good for those ‘disgruntled skin’ phases.

BB Cream

BB Cream

BB Cream

-beauty balm

This 8 in 1 multi-tasking beauty balm will provide all day hydration, provide sheer, natural looking coverage, while helping to firm the look of skin and wrinkles with hyaluronic acid.  Can be used alone or as a primer before foundation.

Used! My thoughts:

-Reminds me of Asian BB creams, thicker texture (but no grey cast)

-finish is sheer but coverage is light/medium, to be expected

-plays well with others-meaning I can use the product with a powder and blush with no reaction or irritation

My favorites from…… Marcelle!

Marcelle was one of the very first Canadian cosmetics brands I was introduced to.  I’ve been using it for almost the entire time I’ve been in Canada (just over 5 years). Marcelle also offers skin care but I am out of most of that at the moment so I’ll have to save it for another post.

IMG_3307

I’ll have to start with my Marcelle BB, CC, and now DD creams which I’m in love with!  I had heard of BB creams before because I was stationed in South Korea for 2 years while serving in the U.S. Army.  When Marcelle revealed their BB cream, I was definitely impressed.  It had the coverage of an “Asian” BB, without the typical grey cast.

IMG_3308

IMG_3309

I have a review posted (or will have one shortly posted) about this CC cream so I won’t go into too much detail here only to say that I am enjoying using this product.  It’s infused with 24k gold and glides on the skin.  It’s also supposed to reduce the appearance of dark spots, a big selling point with me due to my hyperpigmentation.

IMG_3310

Imagine my surprise when I walked into my local rexall and saw this on the Marcelle display.  Had no idea it was coming out, didn’t know what to think of it.  So I tried it out at the store and was immediately sold.  Great coverage, with broad spectrum protection from UVB rays? Sold! Look for an upcoming blog post on this product.

IMG_3312

Just the color of this pencil made my mouth water….and I was even more pleased with the creamy application.  This is a waterproof pencil however, it is so easy to blend and is so intensely pigmented.  What more could a girl ask for?  Oh how about 16 different shades?

IMG_3313

You know how I feel about the twisty Dalton cosmetics mascara…..well, this version from Marcelle (Twist-push-up) is quite a bit different.  This wand was designed to literally ‘push-up’ your lashes.  Don’t believe me? Give it a try…then twist the brush to pull the bristles together, and apply a 2nd coat for volume.  It’s really not too good to be true….it works.  Brilliant!

IMG_3314

Not sure if this is available (yet) as it was sent to me for review but boy oh boy, ladies-get your hands on one of these crayons as soon as your can.  This is also a twist up and the color you see in the photo is what you are going to get on your lips.  If you like high pigment/color payoff and easy, hydrating application, this ones for you. I love a good red lip but hate the process with the lip liner, the color, the powder blot.  This is a product that will go easily into any handbag, even the smallest clutch so touch-ups aren’t so tedious.

If you haven’t tried Marcelle, you should! Enough said!
