Annabelle Smokey Nudes Eyeshadow Palette

*This product was sent to me for review*

smokey nudes

From Annabelle:

Can’t get enough of the nude trend? We can’t either! This palette is the ultimate in versatility thanks to its minimalist and ultrafresh shades. With its mix of warm, cool, dark and light, you can create the perfect look for your skintone. Keep it simple with an “I’m not really trying” by day, or go with an intense smoky eye by night. Go ahead and play!

Key features:

  • Perfume and paraben free
  • Hypo-allergenic
  • Tested under ophthalmological control

My thoughts:

This palette from Annabelle is a great addition to any makeup lovers collection! It is light, portable and versatile in terms of color.  The shadows blend well and have a decent wear time (with a primer).  Plan to apply with a separate eyeshadow brush-although the palette comes with one, I like bigger eyeshadow brushes and fluffy crease brushes to blend these.

This palette has a suggested retail of $12.95 CAD

You need it-Vichy Aqualia Thermal Boosting Essence Water

*I received this product for review*

To be perfectly honest, I have never known quite what to think about ‘essence’ products. Sure, I’ve seen them-in the many Asian beauty stores that I frequent….and they have always been suggested to me but I thought to myself, what does ‘ESSENCE’ do that my toner, serum, and moisturizer don’t already do?

Well. A lot.

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Boosting Essence water is neither toner nor serum…..yes, you read that right.  IT IS NOT TONER, and IT IS NOT SERUM. so what is it exactly?  Well, to quote a fellow beauty blogger Sicilianna.…it’s more of a ‘pre-serum.’  This is something that you would use post cleanse, post toner, but pre-serum.  You know, like what I just said.  In my mind, serum is a product used to better prepare the skin to absorb moisturizer.  So a PRE-serum would be used to better prepare the skin to absorb serum in order to better prepare the skin to absorb moisturizer.  Confused yet?  Me too.  But it works.  Read on.  Please.

So what does it do?  Well let’s take a peek at this informative diagram from Vichy:

vichy aqualia thermal

(Click on photo to enlarge and see clearly please)

Texture

Thin but not exactly a ‘water’-definitely a liquid.   You do NOT need a lot and be CAREFUL when you dispense the product.  That’s a tip from me to you.  This product IS fragranced but not heavily.  I’d describe it as clean and fresh.

My results:

Dear readers & subscribers…I have oily skin (yes, as an ADULT).  Guess what? Oily skin still needs hydration….us oily skin types just don’t need it in the form of a heavy, thick cream.  This is a fantastic addition to my skincare routine!  I put it on post toner and BAM! Hydration.  I have found that my skin appears clearer and looks refreshed.  This product can be used with any skin-type.

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Boosting Essence Water will set you back $29.95 CAD (Suggested retail). This product isn’t listed on the Vichy website (yet) but I have seen it in several Shoppers Drug Mart locations.  I’d recommend it for anyone looking for an instant boost of hydration.

Power duo-Almay smart shade CC luminous primer & smart shade anti aging foundation

Didn’t expect to be reading Almay in the title, did you…..

Think again ladies, because I am sharing my ‘event makeup’ power duo.  I’m amazed at how these 2 products hold up under lights and over time.

I work in the entertainment industry (and don’t think it’s the red light district because its NOT that or anything that involves a pole).  Occasionally there are times when I am ‘to be seen’ in front of a camera or make some type of appearance and I need products that work!  Of course, I’d love to have my own personal makeup artist but let’s face it, I’m still waiting for my big break.

I’ve used many MANY MANY different types of primer and foundation duos in my lifetime….and some of them worked well or very well and some of them were complete fails!  This particular duo is one that I am quite enjoying.  Please continue reading so I can tell you all about it.

Canada_Almay Smart Shade CC Luminous Primer

FEATURES & BENEFITS:

  • Ultra-creamy formula provides medium, buildable coverage
  • Brightener contains skin brightening pearls to help give eye area the appearance of a more refreshed look
  • Concealer corrects to help even out skin tone, diminish the appearance of blemishes, improves the appearance of discolouration and minimizes redness.
  • Non-comedogenic so it won’t clog pores

So yes, I’ve outlined the benefits but you want to hear my thoughts (or maybe you don’t….but then why are you still reading?)

I just love the way this combination ‘finishes’ if that even makes sense.  It has the right amount of coverage and sits perfectly on my skin.  It’s not a heavy combination and doesn’t look or feel cakey.  The skin adjusting formula really works for me and the luminous primer, while slightly pink plays oh-so-nicely with the smart shade foundation.  I wasn’t disappointed.  I thought the light/medium shade may have been too light for me but this is the ‘RIGHT’ shade for me.  Even better, the Almay smart shade bronzer (which I am not talking about here yet), can be used to give you the perfect amount of ‘summer’ if the smart shade ends up being a tad too light.

So here are photos of me wearing the primer & foundation.

photo 2(2)

This photo was taken post an event I helped host-wear time for both primer and foundation was 7 hours at this point.  While there is a tinge of breakthrough on my t-zone, keep in mind, I did NOT touch up AND was in several non air-conditioned spaces during the night.

photo(4)

This was taken in the washroom (Canadian word for restroom) at my dear friend Patricia’s wedding reception. Please look past the enormous blemish (zit if you’re nasty, I’m channeling Janet Jackson-anyone get that?) and my turkey neck.  This is approximately 4 hours wear, including almost an hour in the car-Patricia is SO worth it. I like how this looks like my face, not my face with a ton of foundation on it.

So there you have it.  I like this primer and foundation duo because it’s easy to apply (I use my fingers in a pinch but you could use a brush of course or even a beauty blender!), and wears nicely on my face!  The smart shade part takes away the guesswork, not to mention the “Why does it look like Meredith’s face and neck are a different color in that photograph?” question.

Because it’s me, I do have one small hang-up about the primer.  WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE IN A GLASS BOTTLE? I am so klutzy and I know it’s just a matter of time before the bottle slips out of my hand and shatters all over my granite tile.   You know, like the eyedropper for my phytomer gel did.  Oh, I didn’t tell you about that? Pffffffttttt.

Other than that, I really truly AM enjoying these products and will continue enjoying them until it’s time to contemplate a repurchase.

Anyone else have any thoughts on Almay? These 2 products or something else you’ve tried?  I will be telling you about the liquid lip balm in a future post, another love of mine.

Thomas Sabo F/W 2014 preview!

I don’t like to say too much when I post Thomas Sabo photos.  I feel like what I say either doesn’t do the photo justice or distracts from the photos.  So, I’ll get everything out at the beginning and let you all drool over the photos. All sorts of fabulousness came together from all corners of the GTA to celebrate the launch of the new sterling silver Glam & Soul, Karma beads, watches and some new additions to the Rebel at Heart collections.  This was a fantastic event and a kind of ‘tradition’ that I would like to say I’m getting used to because I love it so much! Faulhaber Communications pulled out all the stops.  I have some favorite pieces and I’m sure you do too. I’d love to read what they are, so make sure you post in the comment section below!

What they’re about:

Nails, pedicures, tanning, lashes, hair-hmmm what else is there again? Seriously ladies/gents, this place is a GEM.  This ain’t  your average $15.00 manicure pick out your color corner nail shop.  The 3 resident nail gurus (Dylan, Elizabeth, Shirley) can whip up just about anything your heart desires in terms of shape, color, and design-the sky IS the limit.  They all have their particular niche-and make SURE you ask to see their nail art….they have so many unique designs! Ummmm also, Me&T offers complimentary hand scrub AND paraffin wax treatment with a manicure…….WHOAH.

Let’s talk lashes…..are yours lacking or do you want a bit of a boost? Owner of Me & T Shauna will hook you up with some Novolash lash extensions to your liking of course-long, natural, bambi eyes……she can do it all!  I tend to go for the doe-eyes and am loving my lashes! No mascara required!

Feeling pasty?  Try a spray tan!  Again, this isn’t the mystic tan booth that leaves you with streaks and drips all over.  This is AVIVA, the top of the line, crème de la crème of custom airbrush tanning.  A variety of shades are available, it’s NOT ORANGE and you can put your clothes back on your body as soon as you are dry (under 5 minutes for this girl).  So easy, and safe-completely UV free!  Did I mention Fridays are Faux at Me & T? Book a tan on Friday for a 20% discount!  Want to keep your tan in check? Me & T has your aftercare on the shelf and IN STOCK!

Me&T offers competitive pricing and superb quality -you can tell the difference between a corner nail shop manicure and a Me&T mani! Check out their website for services offered and pricing-you also have the ability to book appointments online! If you’re a social media type, check out their instagram & twitter accounts for nail art updates and examples of their work.

PLEASE NOTE-it is preferable to book an appointment at Me&T to get EXACTLY what you want when you want it. Staff books up incredibly fast.

And as if Me & T wasn’t enough, how about Fiorio Salon & Spa on Yonge?

Fiorio Salon & Spa

1470 Yonge Street, Toronto

fiorio

What they’re about:  Hair, manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing

Okay so this place is where I went on a complete whim after several months of DIY hair disasters (think Pinterest NAILED IT MEMES-yes that was me).  Samantha had me in dozens of foils in under an hour and I walked out of that salon a blonde.  I haven’t looked back since.

My haircut, also 2-thumbs up-was quick and efficient.

Please note-Fiorio has colorists and stylists….so if you do go there, you will always be seeing at least 2 people.  Also, one thing I loved is the attentiveness of ALL staff.  You won’t be sitting under the dryer forgotten at Fiorio and your beverage glass will always be filled promptly.

THE FACIAL OF THE MOMENT-Oh, I can not say enough about Sandra Thompson at Fiorio for facials.  Skill, experience, great bedside manner, and a fantastic product line (Phytomer).  My skin was assessed, thoroughly cleaned and nourished in 60 minutes. No blotches, no broken capillaries…..FANTASTIC.   I didn’t have to worry about a greasy scalp or oily looking face.  I enjoyed an amazing hand massage on top of that.  Super impressed by this aesthetician.  Can’t say enough good things about her……purchased the 12H Flash Gel at Sandra’s suggestion and haven’t looked back.

Fiorio has a beautiful retail section-I highly recommend it!

Prices at Fiorio are fair and comparable to the area.  Check out their website for services offered and prices!

Like I said, stay tuned for an in-depth look at my experiences at each of my work neighborhood spots!

weekly recap!

Here’s what’s been rocking my world this past week!

all-in-one-bb-cream_l

The Body Shop All in one BB cream: Wow, did they change the formula on this product. I had used it long ago, and it certainly wasn’t THIS good. This is a skin adapting formula, it dispenses white, and then changes color to suit skin tone.  It provides light-medium coverage, is SO light feeling and feels so wonderful on the skin.  It’s made with natural ingredients, and the first scent I get when applying is honey.

marcelletwistupMarcelle Twist Push-Up mascara: I’ve got major love for Marcelle mascaras but this this one holds a special place in my <3.  I selected this photo so you could see that the brush contracts.  The brush in extended position is for length and in the contracted position, provides volume. The formulas on Marcelle mascaras are AMAZING and I highly recommend you get your hands on some or make friends with someone in Canada (me) that can send you some.

diorespiegleDior addict lipstick in Espiegle: I sure can’t pronounce the name of this lipstick but I do love it.  It’s such a great shade of pink, sheer on the lips and hydrating.  The only ‘down’ side is that you WILL be reapplying and reapplying this lippie.

poppy citrine blossomCoach Poppy Citrine Blossom perfume is just about the perfect blend of florals for spring transitioning into summer.  I love that it’s a light fragrance but still lasts all day. It’s heavy on the floral upon application but has a crisp finish which I adore.

dark-shadows-nyx-crimson-amulet-palette

I am so thankful for people like @jillojello who gift me fabulous items like the Crimson Amulet collection palette by NYX.  The shadows worked extremely well (with primer) but I fell hard for the blush (2nd from top).  It was just amazing!  I’m happy to have this palette and I”ll be even happier to have it for travel.  I could take this on my next trip and only need to bring a foundation! YES!
