#BeautyUnited Spring-Let me tell you about my favorites!

IMG_20150310_175631IMG_20150310_175858

Little black boxes on my doorstep are the best kind of surprise!

I have PLENTY to say about everything in the box but how about I tell you about my favorites…..

IMG_20150310_204219

Wake up with hydrated skin and a bright, pearlescent, healthy glow with this Overnight Mask. Unlike a typical peel-off mask, this gel containing Vitamin B3, Mulberry extract, and humectants absorbs into the surface of the skin throughout the night. The formula works overnight at the surface cell level evening skin tone over time.

Why I love it: The less effort the better and if I can multitask (read: sleep AND moisturize), I’m on it!

A daily treatment designed to balance skin’s moisture, Olay Regenerist Luminous Facial Oil is infused with nine enriched, naturally derived oils that work together to create luminous skin. Perfume and dye-free, Olay Regenerist Luminous Facial Oil conditions and protects skin.

Why I love it:  As an incredibly brutal and frigid winter winds down, my skin is still recovering.  Why not nourish it and bring it back to it’s glowing glory?

The Olay Fresh Effects regimen is packed with acne fighting power! Featuring {Spot Zinger!} formulated with 2% salicylic acid to reduce blackheads and blemishes over time and {Swirled Mattifier!} formulated with powder to neutralize redness and shine.

Why I love it:  Spot Zinger is for those times when I get that ONE pimple and I know you know what I’m talking about.  Just a dab on the blemish and KA-POW, see ya later.  Swirled Mattifier is heaven-sent for me….anything that reduces the shine and oil breakthrough is a product I’ll use again and again and again.

Sooooo….how about a giveaway y’all?  Want to win my favorites above?  Check out the rafflecopter below.  Giveaway closes on March 26, 2015-you’ve got to be 18 or older to win AND this one’s for Canadian residents!

#beautyunited Spring/Summer 2014 -looks!

*This is a #beautyunited post*
If you have picked up a fashion magazine, watched a commercial, or even passed by a billboard, 2014 fashion trends are EVERYWHERE! I was thumbing through one of my favorite magazines, Elle Canada and was inspired to recreate some of the looks from Covergirl and Olay.

The look that caught my eye the most was the Gilded Glory…..

So I watched this video to see how to put it together (sans the hairstyle since my hair is now short):

I really enjoyed the bombshell shine shadows and am hoping to put them into my permanent rotation. You already know how I feel about the CC cream. The jumbo gloss balm in Jam Twist was an instant favorite of mine!

on the eyes:

Covergirl Balmshell Shine Shadow in Gold Goddess

Covergirl Balmshell Shine Shadow in Color Me Money

Covergirl Balmshell Shine Shadow in Copper Flair

on the lips:

Covergirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in Jam Twist

on the face:

Olay Total effects CC cream

My only question is-where are all the models with short hair? Seriously, everyone is cutting their hair short (Coco Rocha recently cut her hair VERY short).

Take a minute to browse the different looks-What do you think of the looks? I like that they are wearable and don’t involve a lot of products. These looks are kind to the wallet too!

#beautyunited-Hunger Games Catching Fire…..District 1 Luxury!

*This post contains items sent for review and is a #beautyunited post.*

“May the odds ever be in your favour.”

COVERGIRL’s Hunger Games-Capitol collection will have you battle-ready.

If you’re a Hunger Games fan, be sure not to miss products behind the ‘looks’ in the latest film from Covergirl!

These looks are reminiscent of a certain District 1 in my opinion:

District 1 LuxuryI love District 1-the look is rich and glamorous!  I immediately am drawn to the lips and the nails.  Perhaps that’s why after receiving the items above, I immediately tore into the glosstini in ‘rogue red.’  GORGEOUS!

IMG_3492

This polish goes on smoothly and evenly (surprised me but love that!).   2 coats was my ideal look and I’m thrilled with the color!  Check out my instagram for more pics.

Not ready to commit to the rich red lip featured in District 1 ? How about this Smoochies sizzle gloss in firecracker?  Beautiful shine and hydration (no mess with the tube either)!  If you are interested in the lip in the photo above, please let me know in the comments below and I can get you a product list!

There’s some serious LASH going on in District 1….achieve it by applying several coats of Flamed up mega curl mascara which is designed to instantly curl lashes!  Can’t go wrong!

I’ll be posting more looks from different districts …..but so far I’m loving District 1!!! What about you? Are you a Hunger Games fan? Will you be trying out any of these looks?

Oh the places I’ve been……the shOws TO!

This post made possible by the wonderful people at MSL group- #beautyunited!

My blog is mostly beauty oriented but occasionally I’ll venture into the fashion world.  I was absolutely delighted to learn that I had won tickets to the first night of the shOws in Toronto on October 9th.  This show was held at Andrew Richards designs and I have to say that this was the BEST use of this space that I have ever seen!   In case you didn’t know (and I know I didn’t),  here’s a little blurb from the website:

“Our aim is to put the spotlight on Canadian Designers, Hair and Makeup Artists and Models and build a property that benefits not only our designers, artists and retailers but also our supportive sponsors, by showcasing the very best of Canadian talent at home and abroad to our media, buyers and stylists.

The purpose of The ShOws is to bring together our most talented and creative Canadian designers each season and allow them to present their collections here in Toronto to the fashion industry without incurring any production costs themselves. We want to support them here at home and give them every possible opportunity to continue to build their brands.”

I was selected to participate in backstage interviews….and I’m sure you have seen it before, but in case you have not, it can be described as ‘beautiful chaos.’  Here’s my point of view:

I was also delighted to attend the Bellavance and Calla fashion shows…..every seat was a good one, and I can now truly appreciate the work that goes into the behind the scenes setup.  I also realized that when I attend future fashion shows, I will be bringing my SLR camera in order to capture the models, as well as my digital recorder (although I prefer a notebook and pen! That’s my generation X speaking).

So let’s get to the important stuff-the photos!

The looks:

Bellavance:

IMG_0492IMG_0495IMG_0493Hair& Makeup-Bellavance:

-Justin created a ‘shaved head’ appearance by pulling the hair to one side, and braiding it underneath (see photo above) to keep the hair in place.  I remember when a ton of my classmates did that for REALS in the 90’s.  This look is fresh!

-Amelie used Cover Girl flamed out pencils in a thicker line underneath the eye to “open it up.”  The Cover Girl clean whipped makeup foundation was used to keep the face fresh. I’m loving the ‘modern matte’ finish of this particular foundation.  Cover Girl Smoochies were used on the lips.

Calla:

Hair & Makeup-Calla:

-Braids, braids, braids everywhere!  The string/fabric was woven in-slightly boho-chic!

-Makeup was clean and uncomplicated, but complimenting the hair and clothing.

*Yes these runway looks were achieved using Cover Girl and Pantene products!*

And now, the runway-and I point out (again) this is the main reason for my upcoming shift to a higher grade camera/recording device!

IMG_0506IMG_0512IMG_0522IMG_0523

It was a fantastic evening, that’s for sure-I am so grateful to Jennifer, Alyssa and the lovely people at MSL group for giving me the opportunity to attend.  Also, huge shout outs to all the designer talent, as well as Justin and Emelie!  It was a night to remember!

I can’t get enough of……. Olay regenerist eye cream and lash serum

Disclosure: I am a #BeautyUnited blogger. As part of my affiliation with this group I receive products and special access to P&G events.

Opinions are mine, and I’m not making any $$$ from writing about this!

If you watch my YouTube channel, you  may remember a ‘teaser’ video I posted about an event I attended a while ago called Beauty United.  The event itself was incredible-I learned a lot, and of course left with some items as well.

Surprisingly enough, I actually had this product (still in its box) tucked away in one of my Alex drawers.  So when I saw it in my Beauty United gift bag, I thought “Now’s the time, the universe is telling you to use this product!”

IMG_3383

I’ve been using this for almost a month now.  Normally I try things for 2 weeks-I feel like that’s a decent amount of time to love, hate or feel ‘meh’ about a product.  So how do I feel about this product?

IMG_3385IMG_3384

I like it!  Here’s why:

-dual ended: 2 products, 1 device.  I love that this is your eye cream AND your lash serum.  Not 2 separate products, no fumbling.  Everything is right there.

-the eye cream can be used on your eyelid!  I don’t know of many eye creams that can go on the eyelid.  Many are quite thick and I would worry about irritation if it got into my eye.

-eye cream is the right consistency.  I always feel like I’m in the middle of the 3 bears story with my eye creams. “This one’s too thick” , or “This one’s too thin” BUT the Olay is “juuuuussssst right.”  It stays where it needs to, hydrates, but feels light-especially if you’re going to put this on your eyelid, you don’t want anything too heavy!

-lash serum WORKS!  Not that I can necessarily guarantee that it does BUT I have seen a definite difference in my lash length. My right eye lashes tend to be shorter and skimpier than my left and I’ve noticed that they are more lush. My lash cycles are shorter-I don’t spend large amounts of time feeling like I have bald spots or patches.

-this products ‘plays well with others’ which is always a MAJOR concern of mine. I don’t want to waste more time trying to find products that will live in harmony together forever and ever (hashtag #overdramatic).

This is definitely worth the price-it’s available now and you should go try it!
