My picks for Best Bronzers for Fair Skin

I honestly am so pale most of the year.  I used to think that I shouldn’t be allowed to bronze….that it would look orange or obviously fake.  So why should a pale girl use bronzer?  Well besides that we don’t want to blind people with our pale-ness, it’s a great way to look ‘healthy’ without the UV damage.

Here’s the thing-us pale gals CAN and SHOULD wear bronzer. It’s all about the proper products, formula, and tools for application.  When I wear bronzer, this is what I wear. In my opinion, these are the best bronzers & tools for fair skin. FYI I actually own all of these bronzers and recommend them for different reasons. Enjoy and let me know if you have tried any of these and what your thoughts are. Thanks for reading!

Best Brozers for Fair Skin

Housekeeping note-I am cool toned so while my bronzers are for ‘warming’ up my skin, they all are cool toned.  Bronzers that have a lot of warmth make me look orange.   (more…)

Summertime-how about an Almay picnic!

This was a fun event-and so well done.  I loved the picnic theme.  As per usual, I don’t want to talk too much.  I’ll let the photos do the ‘work’ for me and then summarize at the end 🙂  (You’re welcome!)

Now let’s check out the products:

IMG_3714Quite a nice bag of products, wouldn’t you say?

Almay smart shade anti aging makeup with SPF 30 in light/medium; Almay smart shade CC luminous primer

Almay smart shade anti aging makeup with SPF 30 in light/medium; Almay smart shade CC luminous primer

Very excited about these 2 items right here. Let’s face it (eh, see what I did there…..? FACE IT! Don’t worry, I’ll keep my day job), a beautiful face starts with a great canvas.  These 2 products work together to ensure a smooth, even toned face!

Makeup removers from Almay

Makeup removers from Almay

I’ve been a bigger and bigger fan of makeup remover wipes….especially when I work alllllll day long and then want to look fresh for an evening out!  A couple of swipes and I’m ready to begin again.  I like the towelettes-they are unfragranced and don’t leave my skin feeling tight.

I do apologize for the blurry photo. I have to admit, at this moment-this product is my ‘stand out.’  Why you ask?  It’s the color, it’s somewhere between a copper and chocolate brown with shimmer. It looks so good at the base of the upper lash line.  Complements my blue eyes wonderfully!

This bronzer also intrigues me.  Haven’t delved into it just yet but I’m interested for sure.   I’m in love with it already just for the polka dots!

I’ll be ripping this product open when I remove my lash extensions. I have heard great things about it.

IMG_3719Hmmmm, out of everything I have to say this is going to be a tough sell for me. I am not in agree-ance that blue eye shadow “works” on the eyelid of a blue-eyed gal such as myself.  However, Jacquie did give me hope that this could work for me and in fact even demonstrated using this product WITH the sponge-tipped applicator. WHOAH.  *gasp*-yes it’s true.  Let’s keep in mind that she is a professional though.

Stay tuned for a closer look at the products-more specifically 2 products that I am REALLY enjoying for flawless skin.  I’m a bit surprised that I am liking these 2 products SO MUCH!

Thank you to the lovelies at Almay who invited me to this event!  Well done!

Tool Talk- Urban Decay Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush

I rarely (if ever) talk too much about my brushes.  The main reason for that is the majority of them aren’t all that special.  I have a few “special” brushes-some that I have overpaid for (MAC 187) and some that I have waited entirely too long for (Sigma F82) only to have them disappoint in more than one manner.

Introducing the Urban Decay Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush

I was reading Alicia’s blog and she mentioned the UD Good Karma brush.  Here’s what she said about it AND I QUOTE (ahem)

“This medium sized, synthetic brush is the perfect brush for blending foundation into the skin. Using small circular motions, the brush’s dense head “flawlessly applies, buffs and blurs” your foundation, leaving no streak marks or lines of ‘de-markation’.  While the Optical Blurring Brush is lauded as a foundation brush, I have also been using it to apply my bronzer and blush, and find that it works well with both liquid and powder products. Like all of Urban Decay’s products, this brush is vegan and completely cruelty-free.”

And from Sephora.ca:

“Developed for use with Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Foundation, this brush picks up and distributes all formulations from liquid to cream to powder makeup better than a sponge. The “optical blurring” comes in when you buff out your makeup: instead of a streaky finish from fingers or a sponge, buffing disperses the light-diffusing particles in Naked Skin and seemingly fine lines disappear. It’s blending ability makes it ideal for mature skin, as it creates a smooth, youthful-looking appearance. The medium-large brush with densely packed hairs has a domed top that maneuvers nicely around the face, making it suitable for under the eye, around the nose, and around the brow area.”

I picked up this brush 2 days before I went on vacation and took it with me.

I’m sure glad I did!  I am loving this brush and have no complaints!

It’s wonderful for my liquid foundation and it has the perfect amount of flexibility for me-it’s not completely flexible but not incredibly stiff or inflexible.  The price point doesn’t make my wallet burst into flames either!  I’ve used it with my bronzers like Alicia suggested but I prefer it for my liquid foundation at the mo’  Perhaps in the near future, I will purchase another with the intent of that brush being exclusively for powders-hey at $26.00 CAD, I can get another.

Another “positive”-great reviews on sephora.com

So like I said, I don’t tool talk often, but I had to tell you about this brush.  It’s the right price and gives fabulous face!  BUY IT!

Oh, one more thing-check Alicia’s review here-it made her September favorites.

Caryl Baker Visage-Bare Beauty summer 2012!

With the summer practically upon our doorstep, choosing a summer look can be challenging.  One of my big ‘stumbling blocks’ is making sure that what I wear on my face is complementary.  Caryl Baker Visage has launched a limited edition collection of cosmetics.  These colors are sure to catch your eye and are inspired by three nature color ‘stories’:

Channeling my inner gypsy with Annabelle-first FOTD ever!

I’ve said it before and I will say it again….I am NOT a MUA.  I don’t have the skills, the education, the training or the technique.  But darn it, I certainly try!  The majority of  the time that I have an event to attend that requires more dramatic makeup, I enlist the services of a professional.  It’s just the ‘right’ thing to do.
